African representation at the 5th REAL Conciliation Women’s Camp
Africa was well represented at the 5th REAL Conciliation Women’s Camp, held Nov 6-8, 2014 at Saltwater National Park in Taree NSW. Hosted by Aboriginal Elders, the camp brought together more than 100 women and girls from around NSW including Grace, a Ugandan post grad student, who danced for the appreciative crowd, and Linguere, a Senegalese migrant who prepared an African meal and demonstrated African dance moves. The free camp featured a range of special activities, including a Welcome to Country ceremony, basket weaving, yoga and paddling in a dragon boat. Rotary Wingham provided air mattresses for fledgling campers – what a difference they made! GLAPD supporters Lucy, Robyn and Kiran facilitated the enriching addition of African culture to the Women’s Camp.
