PEACE BUILDING INITIATIVE BY AFRICAN-AUSTRALIAN
COMMUNITIES TO LAUNCH 21 SEPTEMBER 2016
MC: Patricia Garcia, AO
WHAT: Launch of Dialogue for Peace Initiative
The African Great Lakes Re-Connecting Communities Project, an initiative providing conflict resolution workshops for members of Australia’s communities from Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. Driven by genocide, civil war, political instabilities, ethnic and pastoral hostilities, this region has been overwhelmingly defined by conflict, leading to many seeking safe haven in countries like Australia.
In collaboration with Sydney University’s Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, GLAPD (pronounced ‘glah-ped’) is facilitating free workshops that allow community members to share their perspectives and work together to build successful strategies for sustainable peace, in Australia and in their countries of origin.
WHEN: Wednesday, 21 September, 2016 – 5:30 for 6 pm
WHERE: NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street, Sydney
SPECIAL REMARKS BY: Matthew Neuhaus, Patron of GLAPD and Assistant Africa Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
